About

Caroline Purgal was born in 1991 in Belgium.
She lives and works in Ixelles.
In 2015, she graduated in visual and space arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Four years later, Espace Galerie Flux organised her first solo exhibition entitled : “Nihil Obstat.”
Caroline Purgal travels through her own myths and sensibilities to create forms and sculptural shapes unknown to Nature. She conducts this introspective inquiry through a well-acquainted historical referencing, an all-rounded activism against codes and censorship, and a great desire for universal emancipation.
As rightfully stressed by Art Historian Dr. Georges Mayer, the art of Caroline Purgal cannot be appreciated without equally considering her fascination for a certain eroticism and mysticism, which instinctively drives her into creating uncanny organic metamorphosis and very feminine hybridizations.
The viewer is invited and forced into questioning his convictions, balancing his views and preconceptions. Both captivated and cornered, he naturally welcomes the challenges and gentle provocations, and embraces the universality of an artwork that seems to represent a transitional human condition.
