About Us

Caroline Purgal is an engaged artist. Her art is a means of public communication that highlights the paradoxes and the societal incoherences. She wants to raise debate and questioning, instill doubts and activate a sensory reflection that would push mentalities to progress.
Passionate about the mythologies of different human societies since childhood, Caroline Purgal likes the idea that the Gods presented are like humans: flawed. To that extend, she often uses these stories to reflect on the paradoxes of our contemporary civilisations. These metaphors allow her not to impose her point of view while opening the debate. If her art is introspective, she is attached to universal topics that she draws from current events such as the emancipation of women, religion, power ties, stoning, excision, desire, fantasies, pornography... Sexuality and eroticism hold are important in her work. She considers that sex, power and freedom are the foundations of a large part of social links. As well, they are the source like the answers to the large majority of contemporary issues.
Thus, Caroline Purgal questions humans beings. If they are at the origin of all problems, they are also the key to any form of resolve.
"Perhaps everything is there, I try to understand this social link that is so far from me. "
